Resumes With a Little Flair Filtering Out the Hype By Jacqui Barrett-PoindexterHas your resume run amok? Has attention-deficit diluted your writing prowess as you seek for the latest, hippest ways to market You, Inc.?If you have watched television programs or read articles from some of the major media lately, youâd think that âresumes gone wildâ is the way to go. Here are three examples:1. Six-second âVine resumesâ have crept through the latticework of the career landscape.2. An Amazon resume developed by a web product manager creatively detailed his career.3. Job-seeker billboards straddle the grounds of major highways.Attempts to disrupt the resume market have indeed multiplied. While brilliant, nuanced and attention-grabbing resumes are vital to set you apart from the competition, defining how to color outside the lines while maintaining a message that is crisp, clear and purposeful to your audience is equally vital.Unfortunately, the mediaâs need for sound bites and traffic-generation often supersedes providing pragmat ic value to the job-seeking audience. While boots-on-the-ground resume strategists who have intimate experience working alongside job seekers sit quietly holding their tongues, the airtime often goes to reports touting sexy, outlandish resume methods under the guise of ingenuity.Filter Out the HypeIf this confusing message has sent your blood pressure soaring and compelled you to seek the craftiest way to market yourself, calm down â" creative resumes that tell a âvalue storyâ still net the best results. Prioritizing Your Day For Success At Work And At Home
Prioritizing Your Day For Success At Work And At Home If youâre working, youâve got a life outside of work. If youâre enjoying your life, youâve got work to return to. The yin/yang of modern life is the work life balance. Itâs a hard thing to manage and there has to be a tipping point where it can be perfectly managed. It can also become unbalanced meaning one half of work or life is going to be sacrificed. Youâve got to find a way to manage all of this to create a perfect balance. Now, we spoke about the work/life balance a few days ago and the benefits of balance. We talked about the possibility of the work/life balance not existing. Thatâs true, unless youâre a workaholic (and thereâs nothing wrong with that). Weâre going to show you now HOW to achieve a balance. Achieving Balance The truth is that youâre going to have complete tasks at work and at home. Youâve got to find a common area where youâre always efficient. Hereâs how to do that. At work, you need to start every single morning by planning your day. No piece of work or meeting should be able to sneak up on you and if you are planning, youâll be able to react to urgent tasks that break through your diary. A planned day is going to be a lot easier for you, so get your tasks in order and prioritize. When youâre at work, you should be working so take a look at your tasks and sort them out. Achieving Separation Now, the second you leave work, you need to rewire your brain. Itâs home time. Dwelling on work issues isnât going to do you any good when you step outside the door. This is key other issues need your attention, especially if youâre leading a family. They come first. Issues can arise with family at work, so you need to ensure solutions are provided for their care in the case of senior relatives, for example, this would be securing some elderly companion care so that they are looked after personally throughout the day. There are steps to achieving peace of mind away at work! Also turn your work phone off unless youâre expecting an urgent call. It exists only during work hours. You have the responsibility of looking after a family! Perform it by stepping away from work for a few hours. Think about the time you spend at home it could be that you get back at six and go to bed at ten thatâs four measly hours for you to spend with your family so why would anyone dedicate that time to working? By organizing your day and the care of your family members, you can focus on your career and work, while youâre in the workplace. This will give you the time to carve out some quality time with your family. Success is a natural bedfellow of organization so prioritize your time! . Image credit.

Go with the Gut 7 Foods to Eat for Better Skin, Hair and Mood
Go with the Gut 7 Foods to Eat for Better Skin, Hair and Mood All symptoms of the body from thin, dull hair, and sallow skin, to acne breakouts, body aches and sluggish energy all point to the gut. Gut health is incredibly important to making mindful eating an essential part of longevity and anti-aging. If you want to feel vibrant and maintain a youthful appearance up to 15 years younger than your actual age, start weaving these key foods into your diet. Garlic: When we have an overgrowth of candida in the gut we experience things like acne breakouts, bloating, and constipation. Garlic mitigates all of this because it kills candida. Garlic also aids in digestion and immunity, and has anti-inflammatory properties making it ideal for joint aches. Allicin, which serves as an anti-aging, antifungal benefit to garlic aids in smoothing skin and preventing acne and other skin conditions. Ground Flaxseed: Responsible for helping food to travel effortlessly and smoothly through the GI tract, flaxseed keeps us regular. Flaxseed also contains cancer fighters called lignans which also ward off heart disease. Flaxseed helps to minimize rashes, skin flare ups and irritation. When you consume flaxseed your skin becomes more even toned and less sensitive. Apple cider vinegar: One of the best ways to address any digestive issues is to combine a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a cup of water or in tea and drink it before a meal. It helps your body to break down food. It helps with to prevent indigestion and stomach issues after eating. Anytime you can aid the digestive process youâll notice glowing skin and a youthful radiance. Celery Celery Juice: Another anti-inflammatory and cancer fighter celery also lowers blood pressure and rids us of sugar cravings (and sugar makes the skin sallow and leads to breakouts). The natural salts in celery juice maintain a healthy gut pH. The common recommendation is to drink 16 ounces on an empty stomach and improvements to digestion and physical appearance will be evident within 10 days. Cauliflower: High in fiber, cauliflower helps the gut maintain healthy microbes. This is important because when microbes or gut flora are out of whack a whole slew of symptoms become evident. These include digestive issues, depression or anxiety, and skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and acne. Fermented foods: Kimchi is delicious and sauerkraut or pickled vegetables can make for a nice topping to a salad or mid-day snack. These fermented foods are packed with good bacteria which balances the microbiome, which is the anchor for our health and immunity. Asparagus: Another âprebioticâ fiber that keeps the gut healthy and balanced is asparagus. You can add garlic to it and broil it in the oven offering a 1 -2 punch of gut friendly foods in one delicious side dish. Itâs important to note that people who suffer from stomach pain may not do well with prebiotics in larger amounts. If the gut is already inflamed these foods can cause a flare up. Interview Series - Career Experts - Margaret Buj CareerMetis.com
Interview Series - Career Experts - Margaret Buj In this interview series, we caught up with Interview Coach Margaret Bujwho shares her expertise and insights about job search, career change, etc.in todayâs marketplace.Tell us a little bit about your company evalI am an interview coach and experienced Talent Acquisition Manager who helps professionals worldwide get hired, promoted and paid more.Helping my clients to achieve their goals is a passion of mine â" Iâve worked with talented professionals from all over the world who succeeded in getting job offers in very competitive fields e.g law or consulting just after one training session. Many of them have had a lot of unsuccessful interviews before.evalHaving worked with people across multiple industries, in both private and public sectors, Iâve learnt EXACTLY what it takes to get hired in a competitive job market â" and I love helping others do the same. How did youget started? A friend of a friend whoâs been looking for a job for 8 months has asked for my help as he knew I worked in recruitment. I spent a couple of hours working with him on his answers and confidence â" he got the job soon and heâs been getting every contract since then.I thought there must be other people who need help, so did some research and set up my company within 2 weeks and had first 2 clients within the first week of my website going live.Is this something you decided early on in your career? Iâve always had a passion for helping people and have been interested in coaching for many years. However, Iâve only decided to become an interview coach after working in recruitment for a couple of years and seeing how many people, often very qualified, struggle with interviews. What is the most exciting part of working in thisindustry? Definitely helping others get jobs â" Iâve had so many clients who got the job within hours after the interview or after months of unsuccessful interviewing.Getting these emails always make my day!evalevalWhat is the best Career Advice youâve ever received? The best career or job is the one in which youâre using the skills you enjoy. But, not every job needs to address all of your passions. Use every job as an opportunity to learn something new and keep an open mind; you may find that you really enjoy something you never imagined would appeal to you. Also, donât take yourself How do to stay abreast of the industry as an expert? I am always reading articles, watching webinars or listening to audios from other experts + I still work in recruitment which means I deal with hiring managers and candidates on a day to day basis.Plus my recruitment work is very international â" Iâve recruited across Europe and in the US â" so I have experience of dealing with a wide variety of people. What are some of the things that you see job seekers struggle with the most? Most job seekers only rely on job boards Lots of people with great experience still take 3-6 months to find a job they want â" so I donât think it is as easy as so me articles would lead us to believe. What is the biggest trendWhat is one advice you would give someone just out of college today? Donât let others dictate your passions and dreams.Have the courage to specify and pursue that which you love, or could love doing for the rest of your life, even if itâs 100 different careers! So many people follow the path their family wants them to follow, and then realize 10-15 years later they are in a job they absolutely hate.Donât be afraid to try new things â" your 20s are a good time to experiment..What is one advice you would give someone who is switching careers? It is crucial when youâre considering a major career change to consider exactly why you want to do it. To what extent is your discontent tied to your organization versus the work itself?Could you see yourself doing another role there, or continuing in your current functional area at another organization? What pieces of your job do you still enjoy, and what do you never want to d o again? If you donât take the time to unpack what is going wrong, you will just make more mistakes, such as racking up debt to get trained in a new area that isnât a good fit. So donât make any sudden movesâ"take your time, and talk to a lot of people in your new field of interest before making big decisions. How should job seekers get the most out of LinkedIn?The more complete your LinkedIn profile, the better the odds that recruiters will find you in the first place. Make sure it is clear what skills you have, where youâve worked, that you have recommendations â" fill out every section of your profile and donât forget to include some tangible achievements.Although even though your profile is completed, it doesnât mean itâs optimized. Youâll want to have a professional profile picture, a headline that showcases your value proposition; a strong summary section that shows your key skills and qualifications, and highlights your past results. When possible, include num bers and stats that prove success. Also, avoid buzzwords like âresponsibleâ or âdrivenâ â" these are some of the most overused words on LinkedIn.You can also add multimedia to your summary â" e.g. examples of presentations or videos.Update your status often but do it professionally and strategically (e.g. share the article you just wrote). Your entire network will see your updates, both in their news feeds and in the weekly LinkedIn network updates emails they receive.Grow your network to at least 500 connections â" Iâve recorded a quick training video on how to do that here. What is the biggest trend(s) you see that hiring managers will face in the next 2-3 years?A lot of hiring managers need to get better/quicker at attracting talent and selling the job to them.In this candidate-driven market where sought-after candidates are approached by multiple recruiters it becomes very difficult for recruiters to attract talented candidates. The top candidate that you have been tr ying to pitch might not be around when you finally decide to extend the offer after several weeks of interviews. Delay in the hiring process is killing the recruitment process, thereby making you lose out on top talent.Millennials are starting to dominate the work sphere as the baby boomers start to retire. The peculiar thing about millennials is that they love technology and tend to favor their personal needs more than that of the organization they work for. They long for open communication regular feedback. The challenge for recruiters and hiring managers is that these Millennials have the tendency to do job hopping that increases their workload as they have to search for candidates for the same positions more frequently.Diversity and inclusionwill continue to be a big topic, as organisations will search to attract more diverse workforce.Margaret, what are you currently working on?I am currently working on my YouTube channeland posting one video per week â" feel free to subscrib e.Iâve also recently launched an online course âGet the job you wantâ â" Iâd be happy to offer you a big discount, so you can get it for only £67/83 USD with OFFER19 discount code when you check out at:Itâd only take a few hours to view the webinars and I have so many amazing handouts there including salary negotiating scripts and an interview generating resume template â" those alone are worth the price of the course!.What are the best resources you recommend to job seekers?
